Sketches from Wednesday Night Urban Sketch at karate practice. (January 28, 2018)

I got there late just before 8:00 and was flummoxed at first on how to sketch because these guys were moving so fast. You can see my first sketches at the very bottom – they are a lot stiffer and less responsive.
You may wonder how I got details on the poses.

I quickly figured out that they repeat the same routine (series of moves) about 6,7 or 8 times in a row. So I focused on one individual and then chose one of the strike poses that I liked – laid down some minimal lines then waited until he got into that same pose again in the routine and filled it out a little more. And so on, until he completely finished with that routine. Then afterwards I went back and modeled the feet the hands and some of the drapery folds from my memory.

Happy New Year!
A new year and I am creating a new series of drawings. I titled it Pareidolia: Cloudscape series. The first one I want to show is inspired by a photograph given to me by artist friend Tom Miller. His website is: http://www.atomicart.com

Below is my drawing and the photograph from Tom.
