David Hartz will present a visual history of his fire sculpture in conjunction with the special exhibition No Spectators: The Art of Burning Man. He will discuss his evolution as a fire artist from his 1976 solo exhibition, Five Small Fires, to serving as leader of the USA team at the 2014 World Fire Sculpture Championship in Latvia. Hartz has created fire sculptures and fire events for numerous Burning Man festivals in Nevada, and produced burning sculptural pieces for festivals and competitions in Seattle, Washington; Edmonton, Canada; Vancouver, British Columbia; Innsbruck, Austria; Ischgl, Austria; Lejre, Denmark; Tallinn, Estonia; and Riga, Latvia. Take this rare opportunity to see and learn more about this remarkable, yet little known, art medium. Hartz is currently associate professor of electronic media at University of Cincinnati Blue Ash College.
