My First Fan Art (June 18, 2015)
Here is my latest sketch – one that started out just like my other abstract sketches. Yet as I looked at it and was about to add color – I could not shake what I saw – which is Batman. So I just went with it and colored it like Batman and used the color palette of his costume. So this qualifies as my first ‘fan art’. It is my portrait of Batman.

New Sketches as a Film (June 10, 2015)
I had a friend recently visit my studio and comment on all the new sketches that I had hanging up in a row. He said that it reminded him of a storyboard. So I decided to take them all and animate a short piece by lap dissolving between each image. I did not put music to it or do any ‘Ken Burns effect’ on the images which is entirely possible. Below I have posted a photo of all of the pieces completed so far hanging on the wall. I also included the animation of all the pieces completed so far.
Here is a link to the animation:

Meddling With Nature (April 30, 2015)
Last Saturday I attended a workshop at the Art Institute called Meddling With Nature. It was a fantastic DIY workshop all about preserving bugs, cleaning skeletons, and taxidermy. The workshop went from 9:00 – 1:00 and was very interesting. You can see more about the worksop at this site: http://meddlingwithnature.com
Most of the participants seemed to be medical illustrators. There were taxidermy animals placed around the work area. I took photos of a goat seated amongst us and a raccoon curled up the corner. We all were given our own beetles to mount. The last two photos are of the beetles that I mounted.

Latest Sketch (April 14, 2015)
Here is my latest sketch in this series. I titled this one “Shiv”. I really kind of hate titling these works – I think it kind of limits the abstractness of the forms and shapes. Yet calling them all “Untitled” or “Composition #1” seems stupid as well. They all have a similar quality to them. I think of them as a series, however, I still cannot figure out what to call the series.

University of Cincinnati Blue Ash Faculty Collaboration Exhibit (April 6, 2015)

Gaps and Overlaps: Collaborative Works by UC Blue Ash Faculty is a collection of creative works produced by faculty from Art, English, Foreign Language, Mathematics, and Music. The exhibit will run from March 27 – May 1, 2015 at the UC Blue Ash Art Gallery (located at Plainfield and Cooper roads in Blue Ash, OH 45236).
THE PUBLIC IS INVITED TO THE OPENING RECEPTION ON APRIL 3 FROM 5:00 – 7:00 P.M. REGULAR GALLERY HOURS DURING THE EXHIBITION ARE MONDAY THROUGH SATURDAY FROM 10:00 A.M. – 2:00 P.M.
Working in small groups, faculty members brought to their project various gaps in knowledge about disciplines not their own, as well as the shared purpose of creating something new. The process of creation varied: some projects required careful planning while others emphasized spontaneous compositions; some generated new texts and images while others applied previously created ones; and some projects applied cutting-edge technology while others used scissors and glue. The result is an array of works using a broad range of forms or combinations of forms: sculpture, installation, written and musical compositions, audio, video, performance, photography, and other works on paper. These works invite the viewer, as their construction invited the artists, to experience the synergy of artistic collaboration across creative disciplines.
This exhibition is the product of the UC Blue Ash Creative Arts Faculty Learning Community (CAFLC), a group devoted to collaborative arts generation and its potential relationship to teaching. CAFLC members include Jamie Albert, Jody Ballah, Matt Bennett, Ted Ferdinand, David Freeman, David Hartz, Rita Kumar, Robert Murdock, Kevin Oberlin, Rhonda Pettit, Mike Roos, H. Michael Sanders, Claudia Skutar, and Sue Sipple. Each member has an established record of scholarly and/or creative publications, presentations, performances, productions, or exhibits in their respective areas.
A full-color catalogue of the exhibition is being published in conjunction with the exhibition and will be available through the UC Blue Ash Art Gallery and the department office of Electronic Media Communications (Muntz 217). The UC Office of the Provost and the UC Blue Ash Faculty Development Funds Committee provided support for this publication. Additional information about the exhibition and the published catalogue is available on the UC Blue Ash Art Gallery website at
