“ART COMES ALIVE 2014” – Art Design Consultants show (June 19, 2014)

I have an artwork currently in the exhibition titled, “Art Comes Alive 2014”. It is a show put in the Art Design Consultants Gallery at 310 Culvert Street, Cincinnati, Ohio 45202. The piece is 15 inches high by 60 inches wide. The photo that I took in the gallery is not that good so I included a clear jpg of the image below it. The title of the piece is “Ancient makes a rare appearance motivating the pneumatic Actuator to demagnetize the current between Son and his Destiny”

Life Drawing (June 10, 2014)

Last Saturday, I went to the Manifest Life Drawing session. They had a model and did various quick poses at the beginning of the session and then longer ones toward the end. I have always loved life drawing and was shaken as to how rusty I was. It has been years since I actually drew from a live model. I have posted three of the drawings below:

Sometimes it takes several drawings. (June 2, 2014)

I usually do not have to create a whole bunch of drawing before I get an idea out on paper. This last sketch took me three drawings to finally get it right. The first sketch was just a doodle that I was developing – but then got the idea of the overhead view of a surgery taking place.

I knew that I had to develop it further so then I created this drawing.

This drawing still did not really have the fell that I wanted – so I created this final one. This drawing will be turned into a vector painting and printed out quite large. I will post that image when I get it completed.

Destroying Angel (May 19, 2014)

This mushroom is called the ‘Destroying Angel’ and is one of the most deadly poisonous mushrooms around. It is a beautiful white mushroom and is pretty to look at but do not eat it – it can be fatal.

Fly Agaric (May 9, 2014)

I have another mushroom colored pencil drawing of a ‘fly agaric’ mushroom. This mushroom is psychoactive – which means that it will produce hallucinations if eaten. I have never eaten any of these mushrooms but I have seen them growing wild. Apparently if you parboil the mushroom you will remove the psychoactive ingredients and then you can safely eat it. I still don’t think I would try it – there are too many nice safe tasty mushrooms out there.

April Showers (April 30, 2014)

April bring bring May flowers – but it also brings many mushrooms. This is the time to look for tasty morel mushrooms popping out of ground. I have attached a colored pencil drawing of a morel mushroom below. They are the easiest edible mushroom to identify.

Concretions in Worthington, Ohio (April 22, 2014)

I am sure that you all are probably tired of hearing about the World Fire Sculpture Championship. I am finally finished posting about that. I was up in Columbus this past weekend and discovered a phenomenon that I had never heard about before. They are called concretions and for some reason are all over Worthington. These are basically small to very large round rock formations. They are formed as a hard mass of sedimentary rock formed into spheres with mineral cement before the rest of the sediment is hardened into rock.

They are quite interesting and look like some kind of huge egg fossils or giant bowling balls. Below are a few photos.

This photo shows the scale. The person is my friend BC Collins who told me about this phenomenon.

Finally… World Fire Sculpture Video (April 7, 2014)

My video from the World Fire Sculpture Championship in Riga, Latvia is finally finished. It is all video that was taken by myself and edited by myself in Premiere Pro. It took awhile to learn the software and work out all the bugs. The video is a bit longer than I would like. It is about 30 minutes long. I could have cut out alot of footage and made this shorter and more exciting but I wanted this video to be more of a document of the event for myself. I wanted to include all of the fire sculptures and the way they looked before being burnt as well as while they were burning. I also wanted to include some footage of Gunnar the Artistic Curator and Reinis the Producer and to give a feel of what it was like to participate in this international event.

So here is the link to the video on Vimeo. Please let me know what you think of this video.

World Fire Sculpture Championship continued (March 27, 2014)

I have attached below the photographs of the sculptures on fire for the last six teams fire sculptures.

I have pretty much finished the video but found that it is about 1.5 gig file. I now need to compress the file and/or change to format so that it is only 500 megs. I need to do this in order to upload it to a website so that it is viewable by all. I will probably use Vimeo.

World Fire Sculpture Championship continued (March 17, 2014)

I have attached below the photos of the first six teams sculptures on fire. They are numbered alphabetically and are photo stills from the video that I shot.

I am still working on the video. I am having some audio problems with Premiere Pro CS6 – which is unfortunately not that uncommon.
